ADMINISTERING CHRISTIAN EDUCATION WORKSHOP

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this workshop is to help people understand the process of Church Christian Education administration and involve them in the process of discovering how it would work in their particular situation.

PROCESS:

The group will be divided in two smaller groups.
Each group will deal with one area for about 30 minutes, responding to the leading questions.
The entire group will convene and an open discussion will take place on the assigned area.

BASIC AREAS OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION ADMINISTRATION

I. ORGANIZATION

1. How are the groups set up in your church?
2. Who is responsible for what?
3. What are the lines of authority and coordination?
4. How are decisions and changes made?
5. What are the financial resources?
6. How the facilities are distributed among groups?

II. PLANNING

1. How the needs are assessed in your church?
2. How do the needs become operational goals and objectives?
3. What have been some of the strategies to achieve the designed objectives?
4. Who, when and where the strategies have been implemented?
5. Who oversees the execution of the plan?
6. What have been some of the evaluation steps that have been followed?

III. LEADERSHIP

1. How leadership for education is recruited?
2. How are they trained?
3. How are they continuously supported?
4. How do you retain leadership?
5. What type of resources should the church provide to the educators/leadership?
6. Is there a job description for each leadership role?

IV. COORDINATION & CONTROL

1. Who is ultimately responsible for the function of the educational ministry?
2. What is the vertical axis of responsibility?
3. What is the horizontal axis of responsibility?
4. How coordination takes place? (Church Calendar)
5. Who keeps records? Which records are taken?
6. How records are used in the planning process for the future?
